Welcome to SmoothCapture. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our screen recording application.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Email address and name when you purchase a license
  • Payment information (processed securely through Creem)
  • Support correspondence when you contact us

Information Automatically Collected

  • License activation and validation data
  • Device activation status (to enforce single-device policy)
  • Crash reports and error logs (on by default, and you can turn them off)
  • Basic usage statistics (completely anonymous, on by default, and you can turn them off)
  • macOS version and hardware information for compatibility

Crash Reports and Anonymous Usage Statistics

To find and fix problems quickly, SmoothCapture sends anonymous crash reports and basic usage statistics through Sentry. This is turned on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in SmoothCapture under Settings → General → Share analytics. Turning it off stops all reporting immediately, and the app works exactly the same either way.

  • What is sent: crash and error reports, app version, macOS version, and hardware model
  • What is never sent: your recordings, screenshots, project files, file names, or anything captured on your screen
  • No advertising identifiers, no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and nothing sold or shared with advertisers

Reports are not linked to your name or email address. To turn reporting off, open SmoothCapture → Settings → General and switch off "Share analytics".

Your Recordings Are Private

Important: SmoothCapture processes all screen recordings locally on your Mac. Your video content never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export and share it. We do not have access to, store, or transmit any of your screen recordings or project files.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We work with the following third-party services:

  • Creem: For payment processing, invoices, subscriptions, and license-related billing records
  • Sentry: For anonymous crash reports and error logs, which you can switch off in the app
  • Apple: For app distribution and automatic transcription (on-device only)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with other third parties for marketing purposes.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All payment information is encrypted and processed through secure, PCI-compliant payment processors.

Data Retention

Children's Privacy

SmoothCapture is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
